Down Hall Hotel. Bishops Stortford, Essex/Hertfordshire

We’ve visited Down Hall on a few occasions. From looking on their website I’ve noticed they have quite a few function rooms. We’ve dressed 2.

The first was a smallish room for a ceremony for 70 guests. The room was very nice. Many windows letting in lots of natural light, grand paintings, curtains and furniture which matched the style of the building (built in 1540) very well.

The other times we visited we dressed what I presume is their main function room. The room is huge with stunning ceilings, chandeliers, columns and walls. The dark red carpet matches the style of the country house but isn’t neutral-something to bear in mind when choosing venue decorations.
The room has a partitioning wall/screen that goes through the middle. This allows small/medium parties to be contained in one part of the room offering a more intimate wedding breakfast. The screen can then be pushed back to open the room up when the evening guests arrive.
Lose the screen completely and hold a larger wedding in the whole room.

The hotel has 99 spacious rooms to choose from and is in close proximity to Stansted airport, for honeymoon convenience.
